Contact Lens Fittings

Even with all the cool and fashionable frames available for eyeglasses, some patients just do not want to deal with glasses but need vision correction for everyday life. Waters Family Eyecare offers contact lenses of all varieties as well as the examinations and fittings required.

A contact lens examination is a little different than a glasses examination. To prescribe the correct contact lens (type and prescription), more accurate measurements are needed, as well as mapping the contour of the eyes. The exact curvature of the eye is needed for a comfortable fit and determining light reflection. A contact lens examination costs slightly more than a basic eye exam due to the extra information and special instruments needed to map the surface of the eye.

The special measurements are for more than just comfortable. The clearest vision depends on exact fit and strength. When measuring the strength of the lens of a pair of contacts, the distance from the light refraction changes. The contact catches the light closer to the retina than a pair of glasses.

Special contacts may be required for some prescriptions. Astigmatism is corrected with toric lenses, and multifocal contacts correct presbyopia. Dr. Waters will explain any eye conditions she finds and suggest the best contacts to provide superb vision.
