Contacts

Vision correction can be accomplished in several ways -- eyeglasses, contacts, and sometimes surgical correction. The most common methods are glasses and contacts. Some patients prefer avoiding glasses, especially if they have an active lifestyle.

Contacts provide clear vision from direct contact with the eye, and a contact lens examination is more extensive for that very reason. The prescription is different as the light refraction occurs directly on the eye instead of millimeters away when wearing glasses. The contacts are designed not only for vision correction but comfortable and accurate fit onto the eye. Ill-fitting contacts can harm the health of the eyes.

Certain eye conditions, such as astigmatism, require a specific type of contact lens. Toric lenses are designed for patients with astigmatism and are designed with a weighted bottom to keep them from rotating freely on the eye and to keep the prescription parameters in the correct place.

Contacts can also enhance or change the color of the patient’s eyes and are also available in daily disposable brands or extended-wear options. Daily and extended-wear contacts require different cleaning routines. Instructions will be given when you receive your contacts.

The experts at Waters Family Eyecare will help you decide which type of contacts are best for you and provide any necessary follow-up.
